Looking for Propane Companies Near You? How to Choose a Local Propane Provider in Upstate NY
When the gauge on your propane tank starts creeping toward empty, or you've just bought a home that runs on propane, the first thing most people do is search "propane companies near me." The results usually include a mix of national brands and local dealers, and it isn't always obvious which one will actually show up when you need them.
Across much of Upstate New York, natural gas lines simply don't reach every road. That makes propane a lifeline for heat, hot water, cooking, and backup generators. Choosing the right supplier matters. Here's what to look for, and how Long Energy supports homes and businesses in 11 counties across the Capital Region and beyond.
What to Look for in a Local Propane Company
Not every propane supplier works the same way. Before you sign up, ask these questions:
Do they actually deliver to my town? "Near me" means little if your road sits outside their regular routes. Look for a company with local offices and drivers who know the area.
Do they offer automatic delivery? With automatic delivery, your supplier tracks your usage and the weather and refills your tank before it runs low, so you never have to watch the gauge.
Can they monitor my tank? Wireless tank monitors let the supplier see your propane level in real time, which means fewer surprises.
Is pricing easy to plan around? Budget plans spread heating costs into predictable monthly payments instead of big winter bills.
Can they install and service equipment? A company that handles tank installation, heating systems, and generators gives you one call for everything.
Will a real person answer the phone? In the middle of a January cold snap, a local team you can reach makes all the difference.

Why a Local Propane Company Makes a Difference
National propane brands cover huge territories from distant call centers. A local company works differently.
Five local offices. Long Energy operates from five offices across the region, so our trucks and technicians are never far from your home or business.
Rooted here since 1945. We're a third-generation, family-owned company that has served Upstate New York for more than 75 years. Our name is on the truck, and our neighbors are our customers.
Drivers who know the roads. From Lake George to the Catskills, our team knows the back roads, the steep driveways, and what winter does to them.
One company for all of it. Beyond propane, we deliver heating oil, Bioheat®, and kerosene, and our technicians install and service heating, cooling, and generators.
It all comes back to our motto: Where Service Counts.
